‘Duke’s’ held Grand Opening this week
Now under new ownership! Duke's Corner Cafe, formerly known as Rusty's, held its Grand Opening on Wednesday on the corner of Main Street and Highway 68 in Taunton. Brad and Courtney Norcutt officially took over the longtime restaurant on Jan. 1 from Rusty Rhymer, who owned it for 30 years.
Rhymer trained the personable couple for two weeks before officially turning over the keys to the restaurant. “It's been going good,” said Courtney, and echoed by Brad.
“It’s been busy and everyone that comes in has been so nice to us.” Brad, who has previous restaurant experience at Key Largo Supper Club on Lake Shetek near Slayton when he was younger, is the cook at Duke’s Corner Cafe.
Courtney is working the front end of the business, meeting and greeting customers, while also handling the business side of the operation.
The Grand Opening gave patrons a chance to meet and greet the new owners of Duke’s Corner Café. The Norcutts are renting a farm two miles from Taunton, with plans to purchase a home near their new business in the spring.
The Norcutts have made a few minor changes to the business in their early stages of ownership; painting the walls light blue in the main dining area and hanging some new pictures.
They will be retaining the catering end of the business established by Rhymer and already have been booking some events for 2019. And they will continue to have the popular regular weekend specials BBQ ribs on Fridays and prime rib on Saturdays.
Duke's will also offer a daily special. Duke's is named after the Norcutts' upcoming first child, a boy, who is slated to arrive in mid-March; as well as Brad's grandfather's nickname.
The Norcutts are also looking for an experienced cook to work from 3 p.m. to closing; approximately 30 hours per week.
Although the restaurant will still be closed on Monday and Tuesday, Duke's Corner Cafe will have new hours on the other days: Wednesday and Thursday, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 7 a.m.-10 p.m.; and Sunday 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
