Bruggeman goes pro in Bosnia
Former SMSU basketball standout Ryan Bruggeman of Pelican Rapids, has signed a contract to play basketball for HKK Zrinjski Mostar Basketball Club of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
They play their games in Eastern Europe. Bruggeman had a record-setting basketball career at SMSU. He described the Bosnian league as, “Somewhat comparable to pro baseball’s single A farm system.”
He indicated he hopes to work his way up to the best professional league in European professional basketball — the Euro League.
Bruggeman wrapped up his SMSU career by ranking first in points, field goals, field goals attempted, free throws made and attempted, assists, assist per game, steal and most games played. He was the first SMSU player to earn All-NSIC first team accolades in three straight seasons.
From 2016 to 2019 he had 12, 30-plus games, and one 40-plus game and scored a school record 49 points with a school record 20 field goals vs. Minnesota Crookston.
He scored 34 or more points in all four NSIC Tournament games.
