Alex Saltzer had a good night for the Vikings.

Opener is a 50-point win for Viking boys

Minneota Coach Dave Busselman indicated before the game that Edgerton didn’t have much to put on the court against his Minneota Vikings.
He couldn’t have more correct.
The Edgerton Flying Dutchmen didn’t present much of a problem for the Vikings, who won their opener by 50 points, 87-37.
Ironically, Minnesota opening win came just after they were tabbed as the top team in Class A.
The pre-season rankings had Minneota first, with Springfield second. That means the December 28 Springfield at Minneota game is set up as big one.
Last year’s state champ Russell-Tyler Ruthton was ranked fourth with BOLD fifth. (See rankings in Scoreboard, Page 7).
Minneota’s Thomas Hennen began his senior year with 23 points and Nolan Boerboom added 14 and Alex Saltzer 12.
But Minneota sank just six of 21 three-point attempts, a category Coach Busselman would like to see improved.
TheVikings did garner 40 rebounds as they pulverized the boards against Edgerton.
Logan Sussner scored nine points but added six rebounds. Jacob Hennen led the Vikings in rebounding with nine. He also scored eight points.
Minneota shot 58 percent at the free throw line, sinking seven of 12 charity shots. Edgerton was 10 of 18 for  55.6 percent.
The Vikings also stole the ball 15 times with Saltzer stealing the ball five times and Jared Josephson adding three more steals.
The Vikings play again on Friday, December 7 at Tracy.
