Jacob Hennen drove past Adrian's Christian Weidert on his way to scoring 21 points to lead the Vikings.

Sluggish first half, solid second beats Adrian

Monday afternoon captain Isaac Hennen stood on the stage at the Snow Ball Week activities and laughed, “Twice I have outscored Thomas Hennen.”
They both laughed. Then he added, our goal is to get Mitchell Rost four points tonight.
The bench substitute is not known for scoring, but had two points against Canby.
Well, neither happened Monday night, but the Vikings were able to shake off a “sluggish” first half that ended in a 34-34 tie, to beat Adrian,78-58.
“The first half we stunk. We gave up too many easy shots,” said Coach Dave Busselman.
“We knew we needed to take better care of the ball.”
Adrian’s Ryan Wieneke helped bring his team back from a 26-18 deficit in the first half to a 34-34 tie at the half.
He would end the game with 25 points to lead both teams.
But in the second half, Thomas Hennen got his long-range shot moving, scoring 12 of his 18 points in the second half. And brother Jacob uncorked a pair of three-pointers to end with 21 team-leading points.
Minnota puashed the lead to 51-40, then 66-51 and finally took a 20-point win.
“Thomas wants to win, but he has to let the game come to him, not force it,” said Coach Busselman. Hennen did a better job of that in the second half.
“It was ugly at times,” said the coach.
“We turned the ball over too many times,” he said about the team’s11 turnovers. Adrian had 20.
Unlike the first half, when it seemed Minneota wanted to run the ball inside against Wieneke and and Skylar Polzine, the Vikings opened the game up with their transition play and long-range sniping.
“We tried to force it underneath like they didn’t have confidence in the outside shot,” said Coach Busselman. “We weren’t attacking at all so we had to get some movement going,” he added.
Minneota did, going away from what the coach called, “A little too predictable.”
Logan Sussner scored 12 points inside and hauled down 10 rebounds. Minneota outrebounded Adrian, 35-24, taking 25 of those off the defensive boards. Adrian wasn’t hitting in the second half and didn’t get many second shots.
Nolan Boerboom and Isaac Hennen each ended with eight pointsand Jared Josephson got six.
Oh, Rost didn’t score!
