Softballers drop two to KMS
After waiting through the worst spring weather in recent years, the Minneota-Canby softball team stepped into the 2018 fast pitch season against the best team in the area, Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.
Despite losing 7-0 on a one-hitter by Katie Krieger and 8-5 in the second game, the Vikings showed they were crawling into the same league as the highly-considered Fighting Saints.
Krieger picked up another win in relief in the second game. Emily Pohlen had the only hit off Krieger in the first game. Brooklyn Nelson pitched the entire first game and gave up seven hits.
In the first game, KMS’ Morgan Lesteberg was 3-for-4, Krieger doubled twice and Hagen and Lexi Swanson both had two hits.
In the second game, KMS' Savanna Hagen had three hits and drove in two runs and Mallory Rudningen had two hits and two RBIs. Morgan Lesteberg also drove in a pair of runs and Krieger was 2-for-3.
For the Vikings, Pohlen was 3-4, doubled and knocked in a run. Sydney Larson went 2-4, doubled and knocked in two runs.
Larson was on the mound for the Vikings and struck out seven saints. She gave up seen hits and took the loss.
