Walerius homers in upset of Tracy-M-B

Tate Walerius was literally "mobbed" as he touch home plate.

His 330-plus blast over the centerfield fence in Minneota, an event about as common as the landing on the moon, helped bring a 7-4 victory over the previously undefeated Tracy-Milroy-Balaton Panthers in the Camden Conference.

There may have been no one more surprise when the ball flew out of the park than Walerius. He rounded the bases with per glee and when mobbed by his teammates, flashed a smile as wide as the Grand Canyon.

At the time, it gave Minneota a 4-1 lead. The rest was up to pitcher Sam Buysse, who despite walking six batters, struck out seven, allowed just four hits and put another victory notch on his belt.

The "bullet proof man," Cole Sanow, took another hit to his body when the ball hit him in the first inning. "What's that, about a dozen this year?" laughed Coach Keven Larson, noting the numerous times Sanow has taken a ball somewhere on his body. Then Sanow doubled in a run, singled in another and stoll a base. It may have not been "the shot heard around the world," or even the same as Walerius' "moon landing" moment — but this was a memorable game for Sanow.

Austin Sorensen also had a pair of hits as his batting average continued to climb during his senior year.

The win gave the Vikings a 6-4 season record and the distinction of being the only team to beat Tracy-M-B in conference play.

The Vikings will play at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart against Renville County West.
