Young wrestlers do well
The Minneota K-Sixth Grade Wrestling Team finished the Season with an 18-8 Record.
They finished Second in Region 2 and 15th Place in the 2019 State NYWA Tournament.
“We had a tremendous year. Our kids really improved throughout the year and we were able to wrestle a lot of duals. We also were entered in two other third-and-under team tournaments,” said Coach Matt Myrvik.
“We were lead by a great group in the sixth grade class. They continued to push themselves and their teammates to work hard everyday to get better. As youth coaches we feel they will be a huge asset to our varsity program,” Myrvik added.
The coaches, Drew Bouwman, Beau Buysse, Kyle Hennen, Matt Myhre, Bruce Laleman, Kurt Fier, Adam Gorecki and Kris Fier said, “We want to send out a huge thanks to all the parents of our youth wrestlers for all their hard work and continued support of Minneota Wrestling.”
“We truly have great kids and we as coaches are honored to get the opportunity to work with them and look forward to seeing them continue to develop on and off the mat.”
Myrvik added, “I personally would like to thank all the coaches and volunteer coaches that help out with our program throughout the year. They do an outstanding job and are very dedicated to our program and to our kids.”
The Minneota K-6 team, went 2-3 at state “They wrestled some really good teams and had some close duals. They finished 15th out of 32 teams,” said Myrvik.

Gillund places at state meet
Peyton Gillund placed sixth at the NYWA State Tournament last weekend.
The 90-pounder was the only Viking to get a chance to stand on the podium.
He started the day losing, 2-1, but then won four straight matches, one with a pin and another with a major decision to get into the fifth place match.
But Gillund lost to Parker Kamm of New Ulm, 8-0 to finish sixth.
