Volunteers to help Jumpstart’s ‘Read for the Record’
Jumpstart Read for the Record is an annual reading celebration that highlights the need for quality early education in America by mobilizing adults and children to set a record for the largest shared reading experience.
United Way of Southwest Minnesota coordinates this event throughout Southwest Minnesota in schools, childcare centers, and libraries in the counties of Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine, and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood.
Volunteer readers are currently needed throughout our service area for this year’s event on October 26, 2017. The commitment is approximately 30 minutes and includes interacting and reading the book to the class and/or group.
The book selected this year is Quackers by Liz Wong. Quackers is a story about a kitten who grows up believing he’s a duck, until the day he meets another kitten.
What follows is a sweet tale about understanding, acceptance and learning it’s ok to be whoever you want to be. All materials and books are provided by UWSWMN and donated to the sites following.
